Why do the lazy days of summer zip by so quickly? It seems as if the holidays flashed by and already the boys are back at school, the little one for the first time (sigh). But I'm trying to hold onto the memory of sunny days and the good times we have had over the last few weeks. As my beloved is French, we have the difficult task of going of spending our holidays in France most summers..a hard life, eh? We go to the Alps, where we have been gradually renovating an old wreck of a chalet over the last five years. We have finally finished, so this year we had a proper holiday...bliss. For us that means doing not very much, pottering around in the woods, picnics by rivers, a spot of knitting, loads of reading, gathering wild strawberries, catching grasshoppers, eating far too much with the extended family (piles of cheese, magnificent salads, food cooked over a fire, fragrant pesto, apricot tarts and many, many glasses of wonderful wines). It was fantastic seeing the boys' swimming confidence grow and we all love swimming in the fresh waters of Lac Leman. Happy days. Simple pleasures.
Am I allowed to show off and be a tiny bit commercial?? Just a wee peek...here is part of our chalet. It's pretty simple, but comfy and restful. It is divided into two appartments, one sleeps eight and we rent it out here . We've just finished the second appartment, which sleeps four and we are just starting to rent it too. It's been a real handmade family affair, with all of us combining our DIY, painting and sewing skills. So, taa-dah, the fruit of the last few years...
